SAMMY Moore says the signing of Jack Parkinson is a real statement of intent by Concord Rangers.

The former Welling United player/assistant manager makes the move to the Aspect Arena to become the latest in a raft of new signings by the Canvey based club.

And Sammy Moore, who took over from Adam Flanagan following the end of the National League South season, is excited at what the Beach Boys’ new player/coach can bring to the club.

“It is a statement of intent,” said the former AFC Wimbledon player. “Ten clubs wanted him and I told him our plans and ambition and he bought into that.

“Once we sat down and offered him the player/coach role and explained his place at the club he was very keen to join.

“It’s a big coup and it shows how far we have come to attract players like Jack.

“He is very competitive, a leader and experienced at National League level and we want those type of people at Concord.

“He will probably feature at centre back for us but he can also work in a central midfield role. Experience counts for a lot. He was assistant manager last year and, although he made mistakes at times he has learned from them.

“I see him being very important to what I want to do here.”

And Moore says he will be adding several more players to the group, while Lewis Taaffe and Steve King have been invited back to pre-season.

“We have identified a few positions to strengthen but I will keep cards close to my chest for now,” said Moore, 30.

“They need to be the right characters to fit Concord. We are delighted with the business we have done so far and now we will have to wait and see.

“We have made some very good signings and we want one or two more to complete the squad.”

The Beach Boys chief is now hoping the team can match the increased hype around their prospects next season. But he is not getting ahead of himself.

“People will look and say we are spending more money but that is not the case,” he said. “We have a player recruitment and scouting system that is working well for us. We will be competitive and fingers crossed we can push for the play-offs.”
