CHLOE Brunton-Wilde is targeting a top half finish in the Women’s Championship following a treble winning season with Charlton Athletic.

The 20-year-old from Shoebury re-joined the Addicks at the start of the season, having left Arsenal.

And the move has paid dividends, as Brunton-Wilde played a key part in winning promotion from the Women’s Premier League Southern Division, via a play-off match against Blackburn Rovers.

Triumphs in the Capital Cup and League Cup – on both occasions against Crystal Palace - made it a season to remember for the young defender.

But she is not resting on her laurels after upsetting Blackburn at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane.

“I am really pleased with this season,” she said. “We didn’t have any pressure in that game and we went there and enjoyed it.

“I always felt we were going to win. We were so positive and the atmosphere and togetherness is not like anything I have experienced before.

“And there is no reason we can’t have a really positive year next season as well.

“Looking at the line-up I am confident we will finish in the top half. We have a good squad which I am sure will get stronger so it is a great time to be here.”

Brunton-Wilde will face the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Millwall Lionesses and Aston Villa in the Championship, after the club’s bid to be promoted was accepted by the Football Association.

The club’s promotion was hailed by manager Riteesh Mishra as a ‘huge moment.

She said: “Women’s football is going in new places quite quickly and we are part of that.

“I think we are good enough with a few new additions and few changes for the league, but for now I think we have to understand the magnitude for what we have achieved and go and celebrate.”

Charlton finished above Canvey Island based club C&K Basildon Ladies in the league standings come the end of the regulation season.

And the former Shoeburyness High School pupil, who has been used in a more defensive role this season, feels she has learned a lot in the last nine months.

“I have sat out a few games this year but this season has put into perspective how young I still am. I know I have a long way to go at this stage.

“I started the season in central midfield but I have been used as a centre back for most of this season and I have enjoyed it. I am learning new things and it can only be to my benefit in the future.”
