ENGLAND captain Harry Kane is reaping the rewards of a pre World Cup pep-talk from the legendary Jimmy Greaves.

Jimmy’s son Danny – who runs the Jimmy Greaves Academy at Beauchamps High School in Wickford – took his father to meet Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur training ground before he flew out to Russia.

And Danny is delighted Kane has fired the Three Lions into the quarter-finals of the competition.

“My dad told Harry to go and break all of his records and to go and win the World Cup too,” said Danny, who has previously coached at Southend United, Great Wakering Rovers and C&K Basildon Ladies.

“Harry’s dad idolises my dad and so does his grandad and we were told my dad was a big reason they ended up supporting Spurs and why Harry ended up going there.

“Harry wanted to meet my dad and pay his respects to him and he was a really lovely boy so it’s great to see him and England doing so well.

“Unfortunately, when we went to Spurs Harry’s dad was unable to make it so we said we would meet again when he came back from the World Cup.

“We said we would all go for breakfast and when we do I hope I’m sitting there with two World Cup winners.”

Jimmy netted 386 league goals in 566 appearances during his own legendary career, which saw him line up for Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Jimmy also scored 44 goals in 57 games for England and featured in the group stages of the 1966 World Cup before picking up an injury.

That enabled Geoff Hurst to fire Alf Ramsey’s side to glory at Wembley, but Danny now hopes to see the current England side following suit.

“I don’t think there’s an outstanding side in this World Cup, so it’s quite open,” said Danny.

“England have been efficient in all of their games and I’m confident we can beat Sweden in the quarter-finals, then who knows what could happen.

“The dream would be for England to win it and for Harry to go one better than my dad by scoring the winner in the final.”

Kane currently leads the race for the Golden Boot at the World Cup having scored six goals and he will be keen to net again against Sweden on Saturday.
