BILLERICAY Town continued their fine start to the season by inflicting AFC Hornchurch's first league defeat since November 18, 2006.
Town's goals were scored by two substitutes, ex-West Ham and Southend United winger Lee Hodges and Dave Wareham, but the night was somewhat soured by midfielder Matt Game suffering a suspected broken leg.
Although the hosts were dangerous through Kris Lee in the opening half, Billericay always had more goal threat and forced a number of good saves from their own former goalkeeper Dale Brightley.
But 56 minutes had gone on a wet and windy night, with action being watched by a 1,030 crowd, before Town went ahead with a superb 30 yard effort from Hodges.
Wareham broke through to grab the second in injury-time as the Urchins, who won Division One North at a canter last season, desperately pushed for an equaliser.
