FORMER Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood will make his Wales debut against Bulgaria tonight convinced he can solve his "new" nation's goal-scoring problems.

The 23-year-old has already netted twice this season for new club Wolves, following his £1.5million summer switch from Roots Hall.

And the forward, who hails from Basildon, is now hoping to carry on his fine form on the international stage.

"I have scored goals at every level I have played and I believe I can do the same when I step up a level to international football," said Eastwood, who scored 65 goals in 135 games during three fine seasons with the Shrimpers.

"I am really pleased with the way things have started for me at Wolves.

"I have settled in quickly and to have already got a couple of goals under my belt will do my confidence no harm, and hopefully I'll keep that going."

Eastwood was forced to withdraw from the Wales squad for their friendly against New Zealand in May after he picked up a back problem while with Blues.

That disappointed the striker but he is now aiming to make up for lost time.

"I was still able to meet the squad at the team hotel and that has certainly helped me settle in here with Wales," said Eastwood, who qualifies to play for Wales through his grandfather.

"I had no hesitation in opting for Wales and I cannot wait.

"This is a great chance to boost my career and coming so soon after my move to Wolves, things are going really well for me."

The only downer for Eastwood is that he will not be lining up alongside Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs who has now decided to retire from the international game.

"It's sad that he has retired now from international football which means I won't get the chance to play alongside him," he said.

"It was great to meet him last season because I'm a big Manchester United fan and he has always been a hero of mine."
