Echo:

MICHAEL Klass is eager to prove his worth at Southend United this season.

The 19-year-old midfielder featured twice for the Shrimpers in the Checkatrade Trophy last term.

But Klass is now keen to feature more frequently and is determined to push his claims by impressing in pre-season.

“The pre-season games are a chance for everyone to show what they can do and I want to make sure I take that opportunity,” said Klass.

“We have another game today against Aberdeen and I’ll be looking to do well because it’s a big season for me.

“I want to show I’m ready to play and I want to show to everyone else just what I can do as well.”

Klass came through the ranks at Fulham and spent two years with Queens Park Rangers before joining Blues in 2017.

But those knock backs have made Klass even more determined to succeed.

“It was a knock but it gave me more focus and maybe it’s worked out for the best in the long run,” said Klass.

“I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work but I want to be successful with Southend and play a part in the club doing well.”

And, with that aim in mind, Klass is enjoying pre- season.

“It’s been tough and it’s so hot here as well but it’s all very positive,” said Klass.

“Everyone is really up for it.”
