THORPE Hall members, celebrating their centenary, had the clock turned back some 100 years, when Christopher "Hickory" Homer visited.

He set up his memorabelia tent on the first tee to let them see and be reminded of hickory shafted clubs ( spoons, mashies, niblicks, driving irons etc) and gutty persha balls.

It was a very interesting and enjoyable exhibition.

Some members played the first hole with the olden day equipment and, although there were some pars, these were very few.

This illustrated how much easier it is with modern equipment.

Homer is a master club maker and a world renowned player and past holder of three different national hickory championship titles Thorpe Hall men entered the August midweek medal and Pasquale Filannino came in with the score that he had long threatened, when he had a net 65, off 24 handicap and was cut to 22 follwing his fine round.

Cadet Liam Harvey, with a net 66 off 25, has been cut to 23 and cadet Daniel Kirk, with a net 68 off 14, has been cut to 13.
