SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell is not yet ready to announce the Shrimpers' skipper for the forthcoming season.
Several players have worn the armband during pre-season.
But Powell has yet to tell his squad who will be skipper against Doncaster Rovers on the opening day of the League One season on Saturday.
"I’ll make an announcement when it’s ready as I need to talk to one or two individuals," said Powell.
"It’s a big decision and I understand that but in my eyes all 11 players have responsibility.
"I know in this country we put a big onus on being captain but I want all the players to take as much responsibility as the one wearing the armband.
"I know the way it is and everyone is asking me about it but all I can say is that there will be an announcement soon."
