BILLERICAY Town boss Matt Jones knows that his table-topping side face two very different challenges over the next four days.

Tomorrow they go to Surrey to take on Carshalton before hosting near neighbours and former tenants Chelmsford City on Monday.

That game between two of the sides fancied to be among the main challengers for promotion this term looks set to attract a Bank Holiday bonanza crowd approaching the 2,000 mark.

Both opposition sides have started the season with four-points from two games, but it is Billericay who have really caught the eye by following the opening day 6-0 home thrashing of Hastings by winning 2-0 at highly-fancied AFC Hornchurch.

Said Billericay boss Matt Jones: "Of course I'm delighted with our start - but it's important we remember that there are still 120 points to play for.

"Just as the games with Hastings and Hornchurch were very different challenges, these next two will offer something very different.

"Carshalton tomorrow is never an easy place to go and play. It's usually a difficult surface, but at least at this time of year there will be grass on it.

"Obviously Chelmsford is a game that everyone from both clubs will be looking forward to.

"There will be a large crowd of supporters from both sides and that will certainly add to what is always a big game."

Billericay currently hold the bragging rights over Jeff King's Clarets.

They took four points off them last season and also achieved an against the odds penalty shoot-out play-off semi-final win over them.

Only minus blow for Town so far has been on the injury front.

They lost striker Tony Boot with ankle ligament damage after he scored twice in the Hastings win.

And tragically, popular midfielder Matt Game suffered a broken leg in the Hornchurch success.

Said Jones: "Obviously we can do without blows such as this, but it's all part of the game.

"Fortunately we have four or five players who can fill different positions and we will have to overcome the injuries. We're all just hoping there won't be any more."

Added Jones: "We mustn't read too much into our good start. Two years ago we had a similar early record - and that was the only season in the past three we didn't make the play-offs."
