SOUTHEND United have reverted to video evidence in a bid to banish their defensive blues.

Steve Tilson's side have already let in seven goals in three games this season.

But, according to centre back Peter Clarke, they have been analysing their mistakes in order to avoid a repeat performance.

"We have had a look at the goals we've been letting in on the video and we all have our own thoughts on them," said Clarke.

"They will stay between ourselves but I think seeing them all again will have done us good.

"I certainly don't think our defending is any cause for alarm but it would be nice to get a few more clean sheets because then we would guaranteed points."

Blues have yet to avoid defeat during the early stages of the League One campaign, losing against Leyton Orient and Leeds United.

But Clarke believes his side should have taken something from both games.

"We have lost both of our league games so far but I don't think we deserved to," said the former Blackpool defender.

"We've played some good stuff but have been unlucky with a few decisions.

"It's still very early days and I'm sure we will soon show people what we're all about, hopefully starting against Millwall."

For that to happen though, Clarke insists must be prepared to battle against the South Londoners who were among the pre season favourites for promotion.

They have also started the campaign strongly and the 25-year-old knows exactly what to expect.

"Millwall are a well organised team who are really together," said Clarke.

"They are very hard-working and we shall have to be ready to match that or we won't get anything from the game.

"David Brammer is their quality player on the ball but we just worried about what we're doing and making sure we get the right result."

Blues could have captain Kevin Maher back for the clash against the Lions.

The midfielder, who has not featured since the opening day of the season, faces a late fitness check on a foot injury.

But left back Steve Hammell is definitely still out with the ankle injury he picked up at Crawley Town just before the start of the season.
