WHITE Ensign boss Brett Munyard was pleased to see his side triumph in their first home clash at Basildon Sporting Village.

Burnham Ramblers - who suffered relegation from the Essex Senior League last term - were condemned to a 3-0 defeat by White Ensign, with Connor Barmby notching two of the goals.

Despite the move from Southend, 130 supporters were in attendance for the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Senior Football League Division One South encounter.

And Munyard, who is in charge for a third campaign, confirmed White Ensign are not in a rush to return to Southend.

The 26-year-old said: “As much as it’s been a bit of a nightmare to get to Basildon Sporting Village, the people here have been good as gold.

“Of course, we wanted to stay at Southend and we did everything in our power to do that, but we couldn’t.

“As long as the relationship between the club and Basildon Sporting Village is good, then we’re not in any rush to go back to Southend.

“It is what it is and we’re very happy with the move.”

Burnham dominated in the early exchanges, with the hosts struggling to get used to their new surroundings.

But White Ensign assistant manager Mark Healy hopes the pitch will improve in the weeks to come.

Healy, who is enjoying his first full season as Munyard’s right hand man, said: “The pitch needs work, but it doesn’t help that we’ve had such an incredibly hot and dry summer this year.

“It’s incredibly difficult for a groundsman to make any pitch a nice surface in the conditions we’ve had.

“Obviously, when you add into the fact that they have had schools here doing athletics, it was always going to make it that little bit tougher.

“But you’d like to think that when we get a bit more rain and things cool down a bit, then it will be a little bit flatter and not as bobbly.”
