ECHOSPORT talks to Plymouth Herald reporter Chris Errington ahead of tomorrow’s game.

How frustrating was the defeat on Saturday?

“Very frustrating. They opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a goal from centre-back Ryan Edwards, who was playing his first competitive match since being given the all clear from testicular cancer in April.

“That should have set them up for a win at the Bescot Stadium. Instead they conceded a needless penalty on the stroke of half-time and that gave Walsall some momentum to build on.

“After falling behind to a long-range free-kick, Argyle finished the game strongly and had enough chances to have picked up an opening day point.”

Has the team changed much from last season?

“Yes it has. There were five debutants in the starting line-up and two more summer signings among the substitutes. Three close season recruits did not even make the bench.

“Argyle had a well documented goalkeeping injury crisis last season and it has started off in a similar way this term.

“Harry Burgoyne was signed on a season-long loan from Wolves but suffered a broken ankle in training and will be out of action until December.

“As a result, Derek Adams has brought in 6ft 6in ‘keeper Matt Macey on a season-long loan from Arsenal and he made his debut against Walsall after only four training sessions with his new team-mates.”

What are the expectations for Plymouth this season?

“There are mixed views. Some supporters believe that after narrowly missing out on a play-off place last season the team should be up there challenging for a top six spot, even though they have a very different squad.

“There are others, however, who feel that Argyle over-achieved last term, on the back of an incredible run of results from December onwards, and would be happy with a top 10 finish for further consolidation.”

What’s the team news for Saturday?

“Midfielder Antoni Sarcevic is the only player definitely out for Argyle. He has not featured in any of the games yet since the start of pre-season because of a groin injury which has carried over from last season. Otherwise it is a fully fit squad.”

Who would be the one to watch?

“It is hard to look past Graham Carey. He is the talisman for the Pilgrims and one of the most creative players in the League.”

What’s the predicted starting line-up?

Macey, Riley, Edwards, Wootton, Smith-Brown, C. Grant, Fox, Ness, Carey, Taylor, Lameiras
