AFC Flyde piled more misery on Southend United at Roots Hall this afternoon.

Hundreds of Shrimpers supporters marched together to the ground while protesting against the crisis club’s chairman Ron Martin.

And once inside the stadium fans saw Blues knocked back down to the bottom of the National League standings as Flyde triumphed 2-1 to record their first away success of the season.

The visitors opened the scoring after just two minutes when a right wing corner from Jon Ustabasi found Taelor O’Kane completed unmarked and the winger scored with a rising header high into the top left hand corner of the net.

Moments later, Gold Omotayo sent a 20 yard shot just wide of the left post before Blues hit back with Jack Wood just failing to connect with a low left wing cross from Dan Mooney.

However, Fylde were soon back on top with Jon Ustabasi having a deflected shot cleared off the line by Ollie Kensdale before Nick Haughton curled over from just inside the penalty area.

After surviving the scares, Blues hit back with Wood having a low shot blocked by the legs of Richardson but the visitors went close again on the stroke of half time with Haughton wrestling his way through before being stopped by David Martin as he attempted to round the keeper.

The Shrimpers hit back in the second half and equalised in the 57th minute when Cardwell latched onto a long ball forward before scoring with a low shot into the left hand side of the South Stand net.

Five minutes later, Blues boss Kevin Maher made his first change of the game with Mauro Vilhete replacing Wes Fonguck and the midfielder came close to making an immediate impression but his fine left wing cross was headed wide of the target by Cardwell.

A relieved Flyde soon responded by regaining the lead in the 69th minute when Ustabasi was played clean through on goal before firing past the advancing Martin.

Blues attempted to get back into the game with Callum Powell replacing Wood but the visitors held on to bag just their second win of the season.
