SOUTHEND United eased past Ebbsfleet United at Roots Hall tonight to record their second emphatic home victory in the space of four days.

Blues stunned Solihull Moors with a 5-0 victory at the weekend and followed that up with a fine 3-0 win tonight, thanks to goals from Oli Coker, Gus Scott-Morriss and Jack Wood.

The Shrimpers have now won four league games in succession and threatened early on with Daniel Kanu volleying a left wing cross from Wes Fonguck wide of the left post Ebbsfleet’s top scorer Dominic Poleon sent a low, swerving shot wide of the right post.

In reply, the Shrimpers had strong shouts for a penalty waved away at the other end of the field when Brooklyn Kabongolo was wrestled to the ground when trying to reach a left wing corner from Jack Bridge.

But the Shrimpers were not to be denied and opened the scoring in the 25th minute with Coker on target for the third time this season.

The midfielder collected the ball outside the penalty area and curled a brilliant left footed-shot high into the left hand side of the North Bank net.

Moments later, Harry Cardwell sent a left wing cross from Bridge wide of the right post from 12 yards before the visitors failed to make the most of a three on two opportunity with Billy Clifford seeing his tentative shot saved by the legs of Nick Hayes.

After the break, Wes Fonguck curled an effort wide of the right post but the Shrimpers stayed on top and doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, with Scott-Morriss scoring with an impressive effort.

The right wing-back collected a square ball from Coker before sending an excellent 25 yard shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

Blues were soon forced into a change with Mauro Vilhete replacing an injured Coker in the 66th minute and the visitors momentarily started to get more of a foothold in the game.

Omari Sterling-James saw a deflected effort headed away from goal by Brooklyn Kabongolo before the Shrimpers made their second change of the night with Jack Wood coming on for Kanu in attack. And the two substitutes combined smartly in the 83rd minute with Vilhete impressively working his way past two or three defenders before teeing up Wood to score with a smartly taken right-footed shot.

The Shrimpers made their final change in stoppage time with Beau MacDonald coming on for Noor Husin and comfortably saw out the closing stages to move up to 14th in the table.
