SOUTHEND United fans showed their support for Kevin Maher after seeing the Blues boss handed the freedom of the city tonight.

Fans attended the ceremony at the Civic Centre, including keen supporter Terry Search.

"It's totally deserved,” said Search.

“It's recognition of the hard work him and his team have put in.

“I genuinely believe any other person wouldn't have stayed.

“He's galvanised the club from top to bottom and the fanbase too.

“I felt like it was my duty to come along tonight."

Dani Moore also attended to show her support for Maher.

And she felt the Shrimpers boss fully deserved the recognition coming his way.

“This is awesome,” said Moore.

“He's a leader, captain and a legend.

“He was our captain when we won the league and now as manager he is just perfect.

“I'm a massive Southend fan and I'm here to show my support and back him 100 per cent"

Michelle Gargate, landlady of the Blue Boar added: "He's an inspiration and has brought the fans and the city together. I came here to show my support."
