SOUTHEND United midfielder Cav Miley wants to avoid adding insult to injury when he faces Woking again this weekend.

Miley was sidelined for three months after suffering a thigh problem in the reverse fixture back in October.

But, having regained full fitness and his place in the starting line up, Miley is setting his sights on a pain free afternoon when the two teams go head to head again tomorrow.

“The injury was a bit of a freak one,” said Miley.

“I remember leaving the ground that day thinking I had a bit of a dead leg and I think everyone thought the same.

“But then the scan came back saying it was more serious.

“Thankfully I’m through it now and just need to make sure I get back to performing consistently.

“I want to keep to the levels I’ve set, be involved in everything, enjoy it and be successful in the games we have left, starting with a good result on Saturday.”

The Shrimpers will head into the game unbeaten in their last nine fixtures.

And Miley feels Kevin Maher’s side will also have benefitted from not playing a midweek match following an extremely busy period.

“It’s been a hectic few weeks with a lot of games in a short period of time but we’ve got more players now and a bigger squad which helps,” said Miley.

“It’s been nice to have a bit of a break but we’ve got four games in nine or 10 days now so it’s going to get busy again and everyone is going to be needed.”

Blues’ fine run of results has taken them up to 10th in the National League table.

And Miley believes the Shrimpers have been picking up points despite not always being at their best.

“We’re unbeaten in nine now which is good but performances have probably been a bit up and down,”said Miley.

“There are good signs there with clean sheets and digging out results sometimes when not at our best.

“But we’re going into the last seven games of the season now taking it head on, trying to get wins and points on the board to see where that takes us.”

Blues are currently 11th in the table ahead of this weekend’s clash.

And Miley will be fit enough to feature despite struggling with a knee problem during the latter stages of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Hartlepool United.

“I’m fine and my knee is OK,” said Miley.

“It was a bit of a strange one really.

“It must just have been a knock and I’m looking forward to the game.

“Woking are always tough opponents and we know that from the past.

“But we’ll worry about ourselves and look to get the result before going into the game on Tuesday at Solihull.”

Woking have risen to 14th in the table after winning four of their last five games.

But Miley will be doing all he can to stop their resurgence, including trying to score his first goal of the season.

“I know I need to contribute in that area more,” said Miley.

“My priority is to give the ball back to our more creative players but I need to be getting on the ball more and pushing us forward.

“However, if I’m playing and we’re winning and being successful then that’s the most important thing.”
