SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher wants his side to flourish in their final away outing of the season.

Blues head to AFC Fylde this weekend looking to make it 15 matches without defeat.

And Maher is keen to build on the midweek win at Wealdstone.

“Off the back of a couple of wins and good performances we’re looking forward to it,” said Maher.

“It’s a long journey and a tough game for our last away one but I’m sure we will bring massive numbers again.

“We want to keep going and get the performances we want.”

The ninth placed Shrimpers will head into the game having not lost since early February.

But it could be going tough going for AFC Fylde who hosted Gateshead last night and will be playing twice in the space of three days.

“It’s a quick turnaround for them but they’ve been in decent form,” said Maher.

“They beat us at our place earlier on in the season so it’s one we want to perform well in.

“We want to keep churning out the performances and adding points to the total.”

Fylde’s match with Gateshead went ahead after passing a pitch-inspection.

But Maher is paying little attention to whether or not Saturday’s clash will go ahead.

“We’ll prepare like we normally do until we’re told otherwise, said Maher.

“We’ll be there in huge numbers so I’m sure they will want it on and it makes for a brilliant atmosphere.”

Blues do still have an outside chance of making the play-offs.

And Maher says the Shrimpers will not be letting off in their pursuit of a top seven finish which has been severely hindered by a 10 point deduction.

“It’s out of our hands but all we can do is keep the teams above us on their toes,” said Maher.

“We could be in the play-offs if it wasn’t for the 10 points and that’s a fact.

“On the pitch we’ve won enough games and got enough points.

“It’s not the draws that have cost us it’s the 10 points.”

But Maher is proud of how Blues have done.

“If you look back through the history of teams who have had point deductions not loads have survived in their league,” said Maher.

“So for us to not only survive but to flourish is testament to the players.”
