EVEN by her busy standards, Southend Swifts international Francesca Whitby had a particularly hectic day on Saturday.

Whitby started by helping the Swifts’ Under-18 girls’ team complete a comfortable 88-59 win over Wandsworth Sting in the Sureshot National Cup second round at Eastwood School.

The England player topped the scorers with 23 points, with Katie Doubleday weighing in with 14 and Jennie Rodgers 13.

Then, later in the day, Whitby was back in action for Swifts’ senior women as they beat Hertfordshire Warriors 106-57 in the National League South Division.

Once again, the tireless Whitby led the south Essex club’s scorers with 22, closely followed by Rodgers – who also doubled up for the seniors – on 21, Bintou Traore (13) and Ellie Shaxon (12).

That senior success capped four straight wins on the day for Swifts female teams.

The Under-14s were at Chiltern Pumas, where they won at a canter, 123-30.

Amy Rodgers (39) and Beth Robson (17) both enjoyed club career high totals.

Sophie Hankin (22) and Jess Holland (19) also scored freely in a thumping victory.

The Under-16 girtls were in home action against Hertfordshire Warriors in South Division One and also won easily, 96-38.

Maisie Elston was top scorer with a club high 26, while Katie Holland and Emily Hankin were both on 14 and Kitty Hall 13.

Swifts had two boys teams in action on the following day and the Under-18s won 95-55 at home to Hertfordshire Warriors in the South Conference with the under-16s triumphing 81-62 in the Premier Division South.

But, in the women’s National Trophy, Swifts went down 72-50 to Wellingborough Phoenix away.
