Isthmian League Cup: Promotion-chasing East Thurrock rested a couple of players in preparation for their FA Trophy trip to Bath City at the weekend, but still had enough to win 1-0 over Division One North rivals Great Wakering Rovers.

The first half was a rather lack-lustre affair with few chances.

Wakering struck a couple of shots high, wide and not very handsome but the closest either side came to a goal was on the brink of half time when James Donovan forced a great save from home keeper Louis Green.

Rocks suffered an injury blow on the hour mark when key defender Ben Wood limped off.

Things picked up four minutes later when new signing Ray Powell worked hard to dig out a deep cross and ex Wakering man Martin Touhy was on hand to head home.

Wakering boss Iain O'Connell had good reason to be satisfied with the spirit shown by his side which contained only four first team regulars.
