KEVIN Read completed his hat-trick for Rawreth A in the last game of the match against Rayleigh Mill in the Premier Division to give his team the 5-4 win.

The score was 4-4 when he came up against Duncan Taylor who had already won two of his games and was hoping for a maximum but Read proved too strong on the night.

The two teams struggling at the bottom of the Southend & District Table Tennis League’s Premier Division table met with Lentern B inflicting a 7-2 defeat on Canvey A.

John Lott was the maximum man with Les Tayler and Chris Crooks contributing a pair each, both of them being beaten by Canvey’s Ray Wilson.

In Division One, Craig Harris and John Blackman were both unbeaten for Whittingham when they hosted the match against Hadleigh Forum A.

David Flaum added one to give them the 7-2 win which puts them hot on the heels of Warehouse B at the top of the table.

Lentern C got off to a bad start against Hullbridge C by going 3-1 down but they fought back and won the last game of the night to emerge the 5-4 winners.

Andy Seaman hit his way to a hat-trick for Hullbridge but two wins each for Steve Appleby and Ian Rattray together with one for Ray Farmer tipped the scales in Lentern’s favour.

In Division Two, Runnymede B have opened up a gap at the top of the table following their 6-3 win over Legra B.

Tony Millward, Darren Launder and Gordon Child won two games each but they all fell victim to Legra’s Sam Chesher who played very well to earn his first maximum of the season.

Paul Ogden was in good form for Hullbridge D winning all his games against Warehouse C.

Bob Shingleton-Smith added two wins and Janet Finch contributed one to give them a 6-3 victory.

In Division Three, there were two very close matches. Kieran Wood won the last game of the match for Runnymede D to complete his hat-trick and win the match for his team against Hullbridge E 5-4. Alex Leigh was the best player for Hullbridge with two wins.

Pam Swan’s run of good form continued for RESSC B in the match against Canvey D. Her hat-trick, completed in the last game of the night, took her team to a 5-4 win.

Swan was backed up Sarah Mapes who won two of her games, losing only to Canvey’s Gordon Johnstone.

In Division Four, a maximum for Amar al Soufi of Customs B was not enough to lead his team to victory. Jamie Wright and Terry Lucas of Warehouse D bagged a brace each and Del Rudd added one to give them a 5-4 win.

Warehouse D were in action again in a home fixture against TT-on-Sea. Years of experience came in handy for Lawrie Neville, enabling him to go unbeaten for the Warehouse and steer them to a 5-4 win.

Kieran Skeggs and Jack Burns did well to bag two wins each for the away team.
