BELFAIRS had a shortened field both in numbers and length of the course as the regular weekend players took to the fairways to contest Stableford and bogey competitions.
With the start of a number of matchplay singles and fourball matches taking place, the remaining players had a much shortened course with four temporary greens in place.
Peter Baxter (17) and David Taylor (19) played solid golf in the opening Stableford event and both hit fine 38 points totals with Baxter’s better back nine just edging it to claim first spot.
Graham Carter (18) was also knocking on the door as his 37 points was enough for this place, again on countback, this time from a sterling effort by Ron Buck (28).
Gary Hollebone (21) and Chris Shawyer (23) were in masterful form on Saturday in the single bogey as their plus three totals took the top two places with Hollebone in great form on the back nine.
He edged newcomer Shawyer on countback. Jon Howley took third with a one up total.
As Alan Gribbon (13) comes towards the end of his excellent year as club captain, the popular ex postie remains in top form and his 41 points blew away the field in a rain affected Sunday Stableford.
Alan Elliott (15) again played very consistent golf and amassed 37 points for second spot with the much improving Jon Watson (26) in third place with 34.
