ATHLETES from Eastwood have created history for their school.

For the first time ever they’ve got two teams through to the national of the English Schools Cross-Country Cup at Shepshed, Leicester, on Saturday December 6.

Said Eastwood’s Scott Maclean: “Having both junior and inter boys team qualify is an achievement that truly puts Eastwood amongst the elite schools in the country.

“All this has been achieved with only 172 students in each year and speaks volumes for both the students and the staff.”

Having reached seven national finals over the last four years, the junior boys were led into this year’s final by another victorious run from Southend AC’s Rob Frith in the regional final at the Copthall Stadium in Barnet..

He will certainly be a strong contender for victory in Leicester and will be well supported by his team mates.

The inters came through the tough conditions at Barnet with a second place from Sam Brown and a strong grouping from fellow Eastwood students in the top 20..

Maclean added: “The boys are a great example to all because of the outstanding attitude they have demonstrated throughout the months of training in the early hours before school and Friday evenings when everyone else has started their weekend.”

The school is based at Rayleigh Road, Eastwood and finished runner-up in both boys’ sections. Top three in junior and intermediate boys and girls go through to Leicester.
