SOUTHEND United missed out on signing Tresor Kandol because they were only willing to take the striker on loan for a month.

The forward was keen on signing for the Shrimpers but Leeds United would not allow him out for just four weeks.

And the 26-year-old therefore eventually ended up signing for Charlton Athletic who were prepared to sign him for the rest of the season.

“Tresor was keen on Southend and we did think that was where he was going to go,” said a source close to Leeds.

“But Southend were only offering to take him for a month and that’s what eventually stopped the deal going through.”

Kandol has previously played locally for Thurrock and made his Charlton debut in their 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United on Saturday.
