ALAN McCormack wants to redefine winning ugly against Scunthorpe United tonight.

The Shrimpers midfielder looks set to start at Roots Hall despite breaking his nose during Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Bristol Rovers.

And he insists the only thing affected are his looks.

“My nose is quite swollen and out of place but it’s just one of those things and you just have to forget about it and get on with the game,” said McCormack.

“It’s still sore and if I took another knock on it then I could be in trouble but I’m not going to think about that.

“The more you worry the more it is likely to happen and, other than spoiling my good looks a bit, I can’t see there being a problem and we want to get another good result against Scunthorpe.”

Blues’ triumph over Bristol Rovers at the weekend was their first since Boxing Day and moved them up 13th in the table.

And McCormack is demanding more of the same against the Iron.

“We want to start beating the top teams as well to show what we are about,” he declared.

“Scunthorpe are a strong side who all know what they are doing but if we work even harder than we did on Saturday and play even better then of course we have a chance.”

But McCormack also wants Southend fans to play their part and get right behind Steve Tilson’s side – just like they did against Bristol Rovers.

“The fans were brilliant on Saturday and I don’t think I’ve ever heard Roots Hall like that for a league game before,” said the 25-year-old.

“They were right behind us all the way through the game and we are going to need that again tonight.

“Not only does it make us feel better and spur us on but it also intimidates the opposition and starts to make them feel anxious about their own performance.

“We want that again but Scunthorpe who have players who produce the goods every week and we need to match them.”

SHRIMPERS striker Paul Furlong has extended his loan spell with Barnet until the end of the season, while forward Charles Ademeno has gone back to Blue Square Premier outfit Salisbury City for the same length of time.
