CROWSTONE’S mixed second team picked up their first earned point of the season — but they had to fight hard to win it.
All the team’s other nine points had come from points awarded from abandoned matches or walkovers.
The first rubber featured Don Smith and Chris Tancock against Westcliff Hard IV’s Mick Gray and Deb Gray.
In a match lasting more than two hours, Smith and Tancock were defeated 6-7 6-1 4-6 but crucially picked up a point for winning one set.
The second pair of Alex Welsh and Rose Frame were defeated 3-6 1-6 by Hard’s Chris Hanson and Leon Witt.
