Southend Judo Club continued its winning form when its members competed in the Harlow Judo Championships — taking six medals from eight competitors.
Murray Stenhouse, Lewis Turan-sky, Jarryd Nichols, George Abbott and Luca Ramsey-Guidici all won bronze medals in their weight categories and Alec Stenhouse went one better with a silver medal.
Club chairman John Horrigan was delighted with Alec’s performance, saying: “Alec does show talent in the club but you never know how nerves will affect a player on the day.
“Considering it was his first ever event gold medals are within his grasp now.”
Elsewhere in the club 17-year-old blind judo player Charlie Russell has been added to the British Paralympic fast-track-scheme for talented athletes and joins the British Judo Association VI Judo Squad.
“It’s taken Charlie years to get this far and we know he has the dedication to the sport to take him all the way,” said Mr Horrigan.
