RYMAN ONE NORTH:Great Wakering Rovers go into tomorrow’s home derby with Aveley on the back of three wins on the trot in an eight-day spell.

But they know they must keep their own former star striker Neil Richmond quiet tomorrow if they are to continue a run which has lifted them to 12th position.

Since switching to the Millers from Burroughs Park in January, Richmond has hit seven goals in eight games.

But tomorrow’s visitors were knocked off top spot last weekend when they lost at home to neighbours Tilbury.

If they get beaten tomorrow, Aveley could find themselves seven points behind new leaders East Thurrock United from level games come next Tuesday night.

Said Wakering boss Iain O’Connell: “Neil’s a smashing lad who I still keep in touch with regularly. He did superbly for us during his long spell here. He only went to Aveley as he wanted to be involved in fighting for honours. He’s done well for them — but I hope he has a stinker tomorrow!”

Wakering have selection problems with Billy Johnson doubtful with a knee injury.

His strike partner, on-loan Chelmsford City teenager Bradley Hunter, could be on his way to Blue Square South Cambridge City and Gary Ansell has work commitments.

In midfield Mark Cartlidge is taking a break from football until his pregnant wife has the baby.

Wakering are at Aveley on Tuesday to take on Essex Senior League Romford in the Essex Thames-side Trophy.
