THURROCK remain deep in relegation trouble after finding no respite from their long trip to Worcester.

Two goals from home striker Marco Adaggio settled the visiting side’s fate in front of a 588-strong crowd.

Adaggio struck first after 25 minutes with a penalty after Matt Dodd had been sent sprawling by Thurrock skipper Matt Paine.

Earlier Adaggio had tested Joe Woolley in the visiting goal and, after scoring, Worcester wasted a gilt-edged chance when skipper Craig Wilding headed Gary Walker’s 32nd-minute cross off-target.

Wilding crashed an effort against the crossbar after 58 minutes and Thurrock, despite enjoying more possession as the game progressed, were rarely able to threaten the home goal.

And Fleet’s fate was sealed in the dying minutes when a goalbound header from Wilding got stuck in a muddy six-yard box and Adaggio pounced for his second.

There is little respite for Thurrock as next Saturday they host a Hayes and Yeading side currently filling the final play-off spot.

At least they did Fleet a favour at the weekend by thrashing the Ship Lane outfit’s fellow relegation strugglers Basingstoke 5-0 at home.
