THE form of Franck Moussa has posed problems for Southend United.

The young Belgian shone on the left flank for the Shrimpers during the second half of last season.

And the club’s assistant manager Paul Brush admits they are unsure of whether or not to move Moussa back into his more natural position in the centre of the park.

“Franck has caused us a problem in that respect and it is the type of thing you constantly thinking about,” said Brush.

“In the final few months of the season he looked very comfortable on the left hand side and certainly did not look like someone just doing a job out there.

“His running with the ball was very positive and that was something that had been lacking in the team since Lee Sawyer went back to Chelsea after finishing his loan spell with us.

“Franck improved massively and really did catch the eye so we know he’s able to play out there if necessary and it’s good for him to be able to play in different positions.”

Moussa initially struggled to hold down a place in the Shrimpers side last season and was sent out on loan to League Two Wycombe Wanderers.

But, upon returning to Roots Hall, the 19-year-old forced his way back into the side on the left wing and made 22 consecutive appearances in that role.

“At times he was able to do things like Mark Gower did for us and the season almost ended too soon for him,” added brush.

“He does have things he needs to work on like the timing of his runs into the box and his shooting on the run but his performances were certainly encouraging.

“It was the same in Spencer Prior’s benefit match and we want more of that next season.”
