SOUTHEND Wheelers held their weekly evening 10 miles time trial at Steeple and David Bryant recorded the fastest time of 24mins 9secs - exactly the same time as the previous week.

Second place went to new member Robin Bevan, with an excellent time of 25mins. 35secs.

Super veteran Mike Hennessy took third spot with 26mins. 35secs.

Fastest lady was Jenny Patience in 27mins. 21secs. Seven “come and try” riders took part, the fastest being Nigel Beeson in a creditable 29mins. 29secs.

Simon Alexander followed up his win at Dunton by taking the top spot in the Essex Roads under-16 category at Hogg Hill.

Alexander broke away from the main pack of riders early in the race and out sprinted his breakaway companion, Josh Green, to take the chequered flag. Hannah Kane, 11, was first girl again in the under-12s race.

On Sunday three Wheelers, Bryant, Keith Dalton and Arthur Knowler, competed in the Maldon and District 25 mile time trial based at Steeple. Bryant recorded a creditable one hr. one min and 49secs to take 13th place. Dalton finished with one hr, 7mins and 17secs. Knowler had one hr, 12mins and 27secs. The winner was Paul Smith of PCA Ciclos Uno with a time of 55mins, 46secs.

There was another good turnout at Canewdon of about 40 riders for the social and training rides on a warm and sunny Sunday morning.
