A VERY successful Memorial Day was held at Garon Park Golf Complex with a large field playing in teams of fourballs with their best three Stableford scores counting. This annual event is held to celebrate the memory of departed friends, prominent amongst these are Ray Singleton, whose family are patrons of the event, David Constantinou and Frank Edwards.

The weather was kind on the day and everyone enjoyed the competition with the winning score of 123 points being achieved by Lyn Cast, Jim Harrison, Derek Evans and Colin Frost.

The golf was followed by lunch, prizes and a raffle which, along with various donations, helped raise £1,020 for charity.

Mrs Lyn Singleton and her family, will be donating the money raised by this event to the Ray Singleton “Breath of Life Fund” which is part of the British Lung Foundation.

Ray Crowhurst and Carol Greenfield were joined by more than 100 friends and fellow golfers to celebrate captain’s day on Saturday.

With every hole sponsored prior to the event they were confident of raising a substantial sum for their chosen charity, the St Christopher School in Leigh.

A total of 18 holes of Stableford golf produced some excellent scores and tales of woe.

Everyone who took part enjoyed the event and hospitality shown by Ray and Carol, who organised a fun day for all.

The total sum raised by the day was £1,952.50.
