CAPTAIN'S Day at Three Rivers consisted of a nine hole Texas Scramble in the morning and 18 hole individual Stableford (qualifying) competition in the afternoon.

Despite a wet weather forecast, 116 members turned up to support this event.

The morning shotgun start was delayed due to rain, but Mick French, Peter Haney, Len Goff and Chris Green won the front nine prize with Bill Bridge, Dave Gordon, Jim Gordon and Rod Wellard stars on the back nine.

Nearest the pin on the ninth hole was Gary Eggleton and the 16th prize went to Gary Romang. For the afternoon competition the members were split into two groups, division 1 0 to 16 handicap and division 2 16 to 28. Highest Stableford points for division one was Gary Eggleton with 40 points and for division two Fred Parsons with 37.

Highest points for the front nine came from John Purser (division one) with 21 on count back and for division two John Higley with 19.

Top back nine scorers were Fernando Teixeira (division one) with 21 points and Ken A Smith (division two) with 20.

Nearest the pin on the ninth was Keith Edgson (division one), Keith Curtis on the 15th, (division two) and Terry Loveday on the 16th for all handicaps.

The winners of the longest drive were Andy Loveday, (division one) on the third hole and Danny Heinsby (division two) on the 12th.

Overall winner was James Webber with 43 points with Nick Price second with 42 and Graham Stables third with 41.

James Webber had a brilliant round, scoring a gross 64 and breaking the course record.

Captain Peter Fricker and his wife Ann were thanked along with all the people who gave their support in making this damp day a great success. The amount collected was in excess of £500 for the captain’s charity, the British Heart Foundation.
