A MIXTURE of perfect golfing weather plus a course in great condition produced some superb scoring in the June medal at Rochford.

Nearly all the divisions were keenly contested with one player even returning an incredible net 59!

Vice-captain Peter Leslie won Saturday’s division one on countback from Josh Dutnall after they both shot net 66s.

Leslie had a brace of birdies plus 11 pars in his 75-9=66 to just squeeze in ahead of Dutnall, two birdies and 14 pars for a level par 71-5=66.

Third spot went to Rob Moss thanks to a trio of birdies and 10 pars for 73-6=67.

Division two also produced some red-hot scores and victory went to left-hander Bob Wells (81-16=65) which earned a one shot handicap cut after hitting nine pars.

Runner-up Dick Jones enjoyed a birdie and 10 pars in his 79-13=66 but a couple of double bogeys spoilt his chances.

Mitchell Smith (82-14=68) just edged out Ian Walden (82-14=68) on countback. Smith fired a couple of birdies and seven pars but a quadruple and double bogey saw his hopes wrecked.

The round of the day came in division three where David Blunt notched a remarkable 79-20=59, a birdie and nine pars, to come down three shots.

Malcolm Treglohan was cut one following his 87-19=68, a birdie and six pars, for second place ahead of Tony Fayers (92-23=69).

Moss continued his rich vein of form on Sunday when he won a very closely fought division one.

Even a triple bogey could not ruin his round which included four birdies and 12 pars for 71-5=66. And it saw him finish just above three players thanks to a superior back nine.

Steve Weidner (69-3=66), Sahill Buta (74-8=66) and Paul Francis (72-6=66) were the luckless trio to miss out. Weidner had a great round which included nine birdies and four pars but two double bogeys spoilt his card and Buta had a birdie and 13 pars.

Paul Nippard (85-16=69) was another who had a better back nine to thank for his division two victory in front of John Nicholson (80-11=69) with greens committee man Bob Lough third on 83-12=71.

Highlights for Nippard were a birdie and six pars, while Nicholson parred 10 holes.

Colman Faherty tasted sweet success in division three with nine pars in his 85-18=67, followed by Jim Bryan (87-19=68) and Paul Trusler (91-22=69).

Patrick Gilbert came down two shots to 12 after notching 45 points in Rochford’s midweek weekly Stableford competition to help qualify for the Scott Spencer final.

Joseph Garnett was second on 42, a point in front of Jack Joy.
