WESTCLIFF Hardcourts ladies will be defending their Essex Senior Cup crown on Sunday at the county summer finals.

Alice Dickens, Faye Watts, Jackie Moodie and Fiona Stone defeated Cranston Park 2-1 to win the silverware in 2008.

And this year the club, which is based in The Ridgeway, will be taking on Chingford club Connaught.

This year’s finals are being held at Westcliff Lawn tennis club in London Road on Sunday from 10am.

Apart from Westcliff Hard’s title defence, other south Essex interest will focus on Hards’ men, Hockley, Thorpe Bay and Billericay’s attempts to win trophies.

Hockley start the day when they face Harlow in the Men’s Junior I Cup, while Thorpe Bay III face Redbridge II in the Men’s Junior II competition final.

Westcliff Hard II face Thorpe Bay II in a south-east Essex derby to decide who will win the Men’s Intermediate Cup.

And Billericay go head to head with Colchester-based Lexden Hill in the last match of the day to decide the Ladies’ Intermediate Cup.

The match referee is Harry Brickwood and the trophies will be presented by Essex County LTA president John Tucker.
