THE varied weather conditions certainly seemed to suit the float fishermen at Doggetts this week.

Edward Peters had a great few hours when he spent an evening float fishing in the back pool for tench with bread and corn hook baits.

Peters landed 15 tench to 5lbs plus he nearly landed two double figure carp which proved too powerful for his 3lb hook length.

Several anglers enjoyed evening sport with bags of 10 or more tench plus roach and bream, usually during the evening but the weather certainly governed the size of the bag.

Brothers Jamie and Mick Osborne had a reasonable mixed bag from the south bank which exceeded 100lbs.

Mick landed the larger tench which fell his feeder tactics while Jamie, fishing the pole, landed greater numbers of fish, predominantly bream and roach.

The carp anglers found and saw fish in most parts of the lack with the majority of runs being enjoyed from the margins.

Local father and son team Chris and Steve Taylor landed and lost several good fish from the notorious long arm.

Fishing his first session this year Steve landed mirrors of 15,19 and 23lbs while son Chris, who enjoyed an extra two hours on the swim landed mirrors of 14,15 and 18lbs plus two different fish weighing in at exactly 19lbs each — Chris also had one common of 13lbs.

Bailiff Gary Pipe proved he has not forgotten how to catch carp by landing two mid doubles from the margins by the south bank.

Frank Banks along with a few other anglers this week found a few mirrors basking in the sun and managed to tempt a very hard fighting 18lb mirror on to his hook using floaters.

Paul Benson fished his favourite east bank swim for a couple of sessions this week where he landed three mid doubles plus a 20lb mirror. Matt Herbert from Wakering fished a session on the south bank where he found quality but not quantity when his only fish was a 20lb mirror.

John Hanks continues his run of good fortune at Doggetts this week when he fished two nights on the short arm fishing no more than four feet from the bank. Hanks has always managed to land a few scrappy mid doubles during each session but this time his luck was really in when he banked his first 30lb mirror using his own brand of home made boilie.

His mirror weighed in at a very respectable 30lbs 4oz.
