GOLFERS from the club have raised £10,000 plus for the St Christopher Special School in Leigh.

A cheque for £10,646.81 was presented to St Christopher's head teacher, Jacqueline Mullan, by the club's 2009 captains.

They are Raymond Crowhurst, Carol Greenfield and Jim Saunders. This donation was the result of a year’s fundraising by members and will be put to good use by the school. Mrs Mullan said: “The school is very appreciative of this donation and the level of community support it represents. It will allow us to provide some additional services and we hope to enlarge and redesign our sensory room for all pupils to enjoy. “Such community support allows the school to enrich the lives of our pupils, especially those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder who really enjoy the sensory experience. “A big thank you to everyone concerned.”

Carol Greenfield said: "The choice of charity was close to our heart as club members Mark and Nicola Buxton have two children who attend the school.”

>More than £500 was raised for this year's charity in aid of research into prostate cancer when Paul Clark drove himself in as the 2010 captain. A total of 84 golfers turned out to play nine holes with just over 100 attending the lunch and taking part in the raffle.

Said Clark: “I was astounded by the support of the club members and thank everyone for their generosity.”
