Benfleet Cricket Club seem like they are rolling in it after unveiling their new acquisition at the weekend’s Cricket Force event.

The club’s sponsors supplied them with a new grass roller in order to maintain the quality of their field throughout the year.

Cricket Force is a nationwide ECB event where members of clubs gather together and spend a weekend working on the maintenance of the pitches, grounds and clubhouses.

More than 40 people attended at Benfleet’s Woodside Park home, working from early Saturday morning until Sunday night. The end results were significant improvements to the pavilion and the changing rooms, with well-needed lockers being added to the latter.

Marketing manager Dave Miles said: “It went very well and a lot of members went up there, making it very successful. We haven’t had a new roller for at least seven or eight years and the outfield in particular was beginning to suffer.”

Club chairman Jon Wright praised for all those who attended and worked throughout the weekend. Miles explained: “He said it was a massive step towards improving the facilities and would like to thank everyone and the effort they put in.”

The club’s first team were promotes to Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League Division Two for the first time in 31 years, after securing the Division Three title.
