BRENTFORD have had an offer accepted for Southend United’s right back Simon Francis.

The defender, who was voted Blues’ player of the year last season, is keen to quit the club following their relegation in to League Two.

And it is the Bees who have made the first move for the 25-year-old, with a bid which is believed to be in the region of £150,000.

“Brentford are having a real go next season and Simon is someone they’re keen to bring in,” said a source close to the club.

“They were impressed by his performances for Southend and hope to be able to sign him to strengthen their side.”

Francis, who rejected a move to Peterborough United last January, has made 180 appearances for Blues since signing from Sheffield United in the summer of 2006. But it remains to be seen if he will fancy a switch to Griffin Park.

Blues were not keen to give too much away about Francis’ future, but the club did confirm they had accepted an offer from a League One club.

“The club has now given Simon permission to speak to the team to discuss personal terms,” said a short statement.

“We will update supporters further as the situation develops.”
