Leigh & Westcliff LTA clubs took time out from the courts to test their grey matter.

As part of the association’s diamond anniversary celebrations, a quiz night was held at Saxon Hall in Aviation Way, Southend.

Seventeen of the 19 clubs affiliated to the L&W took part in the event with 200 people tucking into a pre-quiz meal.

There were 10 rounds of questions with L&W league secretary Dave Lincoln acting as quiz master and Gerald Sverdloff providing visual and audio items for certain rounds.

The Feel and Think round sparked much laughter as particpants had to guess what items in a sealed bag were, with a fertiliser ball evading detection by anyone.

Kitty Livingston, Ali Wilson and her son Dominic acted as markers and following the final round, their totting up revealed Hadleigh Park and Wickford had tied with 79 points.

It was then discovered that Hadleigh had put William I down as answer, while William the Conqueror was shown on the answer sheet.

The cross was turned into a tick and Hadleigh Park won with 80 points to claim the Leigh & Westcliff Quiz Shield, diamond keyrings for the ladies and a bottle of wine for the men.

The league thanked the management and staff at Saxon Hall and everyone who ensured the event ran smoothly.
