CATHOLIC United made short work of Takeley Reserves in their Essex Olympian League cup match.

A John Hanrahan brace and singles strikes from Adam Moore, Tom Kearney and Nathan Roach saw Southend-based Catholic win 5-0 in the Senior Division Cup round one fixture.

Rayleigh Town were defeated 1-0 in the Premier Division as Frank McCardle’s goal put Frenford Senior five points clear at the top.

White Ensign are second after an Andy Collins hat-trick and goals from Ryan Collins, Adam Yates and Gary Goodey saw the Southend side defeat Epping 6-3.

Ben Higgs, Michael Archer and Craig Jones saw Billericay’s Forest Glade to a 3-1 home win over Upminster in Senior Division Two.

But Leigh Ramblers lost 3-2 away to Leytonstone United, who gained their first points of the season. Sam Harding and James Staerck got Ramblers’ goals.

Senior Division Three action saw Old Southendian move to within a point of top spot following a 3-2 win at Basildon Town.

Ross Barrett and Bwana Shana scored for Basildon, but goals from Dan Woodman, Nick Cardosi and Greg Molford secured the points for the visitors.

Bowers & Pitsea are still looking for their first points of the season following a 3-2 away defeat to Shenfield AFC. Dave Woodcock and Charlie Kirby were on target for Bowers.

Des Shelley’s goal was sufficient for Ramsden to record a 1-0 win at home to Debden Sports.

Scott Wheeler was spot on for Rayleigh Town in their Reserve Division One match against M&B Club.

His successful penalty gave Town a 1-0 away win and moved them level on points at the top with Canning Town.

Ramsden’s reserves ran riot at Galleywood as they thumped their hosts 6-1 in Reserve Division Two.

Jon Flewers bagged four for Ramsden, with Ryan Morgan and Adam Wylie also getting on the scoresheet.

Hannakins Farm also enjoyed a goal feast as they recorded their first win of the season with a 7-1 scoreline at home to Springfield.

Jack Edgar and Brett Munyard scored a brace each, with James Selby-Knight, George Lay and Robert Brady also finding the back of the net.

Jamie Noorhaizamdin got the consolation goal for Benfleet as they went down 5-1 away to Hutton.

Forest Glade reserves put Sungate in the shade with a 4-0 away win in Reserve Division Three.

Joe Moles scored two and Matt Barrett and Dave Smith got the other goals.
