BOWERS & Pitsea failed to capitalise on their first-half dominance as they went out to Wantage Town in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Only some great work from Town keeper Gareth Tucker kept the teams on level terms at the break.

And they were rewarded for their rear-guard action with a winner on 79 minutes when a perfectly weighted corner from Tom Butler was powerfully headed home by Richie Guy.

Bowers boss Colin Cook said: “We didn’t take our chances in the first half and paid the price.”

Bowers host Sawbridgeworth in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy tomorrow.

>HULLBRIDGE SPORTS are in Essex Senior League Cup action tonight as they play host to London APSA, who currently sit fifth in the Essex Senior table.
