Canvey and Concord both romped to 3-0 wins on Tuesday evening to leap-frog Essex neighbours Billericay in the Ryman Premier league table.

The Gulls inflicted a first league defeat of the season on promotion-chasing Bury Town at the Brockwell Stadium, and the Beach Boys came away from Hastings United with all three points.

Jason Hallett and Alex Rhodes scored either side of a Rob King penalty to give Canvey victory over a Bury side which included former-Premiership striker James Scowcroft.

Lowestoft went ahead when Jamie Forshaw drove the ball firmly between the legs of goalkeeper Nick Morgan.

Lowestoft doubled their lead through a Sam Gauharam header, before Billericay pulled one back when Cedric Ngakam volleyed in Dave Collis’ cross.

But Lowestoft restored their two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time when Jamie Godbold rocketed the ball into the top corner.

It all means that Billericay dropped to 11th, Concord moved up to 10th, and Canvey finished the evening in seventh.

Table-toppers Sutton United were stretched by Harrow Borough but held on to maintain their unbeaten
