ANTHONY Grant has given Southend United a massive boost ahead of tonight’s home clash with Bury by insisting he still expects to be with the club at the end of the transfer window.

The midfielder has been Blues’ most consistent performer so far this season and speculation has therefore surrounded his future.

But Grant believes he will remain at Roots Hall beyond January.

“I’m still very happy being at Southend United,” said the 23-year-old who has bagged six goals this term.

“It doesn’t look like I’m going to be going anywhere and I’m focused on doing well here.”

Grant’s next opportunity to impress will come this evening as Southend host the promotion chasing Bury at Roots Hall.

The Shakers currently occupy the final play-off position in seventh place but take on Blues having not won in their last six matches.

And Grant is keen to extend their winless streak.

“We had a great victory at Rotherham last weekend and we want to go on and build on that now,” he said.

“All games are hard in this league so we will be in for a tough test but we will give it everything we have to come out on top and finally get a win at home.”

Blues, who are 15th in the table, have not triumphed at Roots Hall since late October and have gone five games without a win at their own ground.

But as they look to end that wretched record tonight, Grant will again be teaming up with Lee Sawyer who has returned to Roots Hall for a third time after two previous loan spells with the club.
