WESTCLIFF Wanderers will be reforming for the first time in 20 years to take on a team of former Southend United stars in memory of one of their former team-mates, Ivor Samuels.

Ivor died last July from cancer when aged just 45.

And his friends and family have organised a match to remember him and to also raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund at Southend United’s Roots Hall ground next Tuesday, kick-off 6pm.

“Ivor and his family were always big Southend fans and after he died we got together and decided to reform for a match to raise money for charity,” said Ivor’s friend Gary Jackets.

“We all played on a Sunday morning in the ’80s and ’90s and just enjoyed the fun of playing and had the dream of winning the odd match.

“We were all big Blues fans and for a period of time we were managed by former Southend players Shane Westley and Danny O’Shea.

“We’ve all stayed friends and wanted to put on this game to celebrate Ivor’s life and to raise funds to fight the disease that took Ivor away from us at such a young age.”

Among the former Southend stars in action will be goalkeeper Simon Royce, defender Paul Clark, wingers Andy Ansah and Peter Taylor and strikers Ian Benjamin and David Crown.

Prices have been set at £5 with those under-14 free. All money raised will be donated to the Bobby Moore Fund.
