JULIAN Dicks says he is desperate to get involved with football again after a two-month absence.

The 42-year-old West Ham legend says he has been “climbing the walls” since quitting as Grays manager in mid-May.

Dicks, who passed his Uefa B coaching badge last week, said: “I’ve been putting my CV about over the summer but so far I’ve had no joy.

“I was a manager at Grays, but I wouldn’t mind being a number two somewhere, or a coach.

“At the end of the day with me what you will get is someone who is fully committed.

“I’m sure I can do a very good job somewhere.”

Dicks started his managerial career at Ridgeons Premier side Wivenhoe Town, before taking over at a Grays outfit in the Conference National.

But Grays’ well documented financial problems saw them drop three divisions last season, and they finished their Ryman One North campaign in a disappointing 10th place.

Dicks, who unsuccessfully applied for the reserve team coach position at West Ham earlier this year, walked away from Grays at the end of the season but says he now wants a return to a game which made him a cult hero.

He said: “I’m prepared to travel anywhere in the country for the right job, and I’ve got no qualms about what level I’m involved at.

“Obviously I’d love to manage in the Premier League one day.

“But if a Ryman One North or South club showed interest then that is something I would have to consider.

“At the moment I’m climbing the walls and driving my family nuts,” added Dicks, who was known as the Terminator in his playing days.

“It has been nice getting the chance to watch and play a bit of football though; I went to Braintree against Colchester the other night, and I played for Liverpool in a showpiece game in Bristol on the weekend.

“But I need to get back to a hands-on-role now, and the sooner that happens the better.”
