THE Blue Voice supporters group are urging Southend United’s fans to shout their side to the top of the League Two table with a win over Shrewsbury Town at Roots Hall tomorrow night.

Victory over the Shrews would see Southend become league leaders for the first time in five years.

And Lee Smith, a committee member of the fans group aiming to improve the atmosphere inside the stadium, is keen for the fans to play their part.

“We are urging all Southend United fans to help create a carnival atmosphere at Friday night’s huge game,” said Smith.

“We need everyone to pull in the same direction because although it has been a dire period over the last few years, you have to move on.

“This will always be our club and this is will always be our town and we should all take great pride in that fact.

“Things are improving and brighter times lay ahead.

“We now need to re-group and get back to doing what football fans do best – supporting our club – starting with the game against Shrewsbury so the team can be top of the league.”

Fans have also been working behind the scenes to make their support more visible.

As a result, balloons, streamers, confetti cannons, beach balls and flags will all be brought to the game.

And the Blue Voice would also love to see more supporters at the match.

“People should encourage a few mates to come down to the game or put a match poster up in their window to tell others it’s on,” said Smith.

“The more people inside the ground the more noise we can make and we want to bring back the Roots Hall roar.”

The club are also keen to attract more fans and will be doing pints for £1 before 6.45pm in all bars inside the stadium.

This is for Fosters, Strongbow, John Smith or a glass of wine.
