ANTO Flood wants to be let loose on the Burton Albion back four tomorrow.

The Irish striker, who joined Blues during January, is still waiting to make his debut.

But he now feels ready to be thrown in to first team action.

“It was always going to take me time to settle in because the Irish season ended in October and I hadn’t really kicked a ball from then until when I came to Southend,” said Flood, 27.

“I’ve worked hard in training though, I played 90 minutes at Braintree in the week which I enjoyed and I feel ready now to play in the games we have left.

“I’d love to be involved at some stage as well because the matches are all massive now with us having so much to play for.”

Flood came to Southend from Bohemians after initially impressing during a trial match.

He made the Blues bench for the first time at Morecambe last weekend and has already been impressed by what League Two has to offer.

“It’s a bit faster than the football in Ireland and there are a lot more games to contend with,” said Flood.

“But around 10 players came over from the Irish leagues this season and I think all of them are doing well.

“James McClean at Sunderland is one of those and he’s getting better and better all the time.

“That’s what I want to do at Southend and hopefully I can play a part in us getting automatic promotion this season.”
