YOUNG triathlon sensation Kiera Tippett had a busy weekend capped by her becoming the Eastern Region Biathlon champion in Nottingham.

The 13-year-old King John School pupil has now qualified for the British Championships in May which could lead to a place in the Great Britain squad for the World Biathlon Championships.

The Benfleet teenager – who competes for the triathlon club Human Performance Unit – was on top form beating every competitor in her age group – even the boys – winning not only the overall title, but picking up medals for the fastest swimmer and fastest runner in her age group.

The performance was made even more amazing considering the exertions she put herself through the day before.

Tippett competed in a British Cycling time trial and race at Dunton on Saturday, winning a silver medal and missing out on gold by just two seconds.

Then, just hours later, she was competing in the pool for her club Runnymede in the Essex League gala at Basildon.

“She’s amazing,” said mum Trish.

“She’s got so much energy. She was a bit tired on the way back from Nottingham, but still didn’t go to sleep!

“Actually, the competition up in Nottingham was quite short for her. The swim was just 100m and the run 1,500m.

“She actually said ‘mum, this is like a training session’.

“But ever since she was eight she has said she has wanted to have GBR printed on her tri-suit and she’s doing everything she can to make sure that happens.

“We have quite a few weeks like that every year where Kiera is competing in many events, particularly in the summer.

“We’ve racked up the miles, but it’s worth it because Kiera loves it so much. We are really proud of her.”
