I THINK it has all the makings of a really good game when we go to Oxford this weekend.

For me they are one of the best teams we have played this season.

And, like ourselves, they still have plenty to be playing for as they aim to secure a place in the play-offs.

Anything less than that has to be seen as a failure for them because they have some excellent and experienced players who will try and make things difficult for us.

But I’m sure we will be taking plenty of fans to the game so that should make for a really good atmosphere and we’re also full of confidence right now.

I actually thought the first 45 minutes against Barnet last Friday was our best half of football so far this season.

We knew it was going to be a hard night due to the appointment of Martin Allen as their manager but we came out all guns blazing and scored three quick goals to win the game.

That’s the way it goes sometimes and, although the second half wasn’t quite as exciting, we kept a good shape to secure another clean sheet which was also very pleasing.

We now want to build on that at Oxford because we are still in with a slight chance of the top three.

However, it’s only possible if we win again at the weekend so we can only worry about ourselves and how we do.

Then, if we do get the victory, we can look at the other results, and hope they went our way and see if it will go to the final day of the season.

We know there’s only a slight possibility of promotion if we do win our next two games.

But if we win the next five then we will definitely be going up via the play-offs so it’s important to keep the good run of performances going.

Strangely enough I also think the wet weather helps us, so I’m probably the only person who is happy to see that it keeps raining at the moment.

Having a zippy pitch helped us at Roots Hall the other night and there can be no denying that having our fans in the North Bank does as well.

It’s not just me being nostalgic because I actually think having them there has generated a much better atmosphere and it’s no coincidence our results have been better since supporters went back in there.
