SOUTHEND United striker Elliot Benyon has his sights set on continuing his fine scoring record against Oxford United tomorrow.

The 24-year-old has netted six goals in his last four meetings with the U’s.

And, having now completed a three match suspensions, Benyon is again hoping to hit the back of the net at the Kassam Stadium this weekend.

“I’ve got a good record against Oxford so hopefully I can keep that going,” said Benyon, who was sent off during the 2-0 defeat at Bradford City on Good Friday.

“I’ve worked hard to keep my fitness up while I’ve been out and I can’t wait to play again because these last three games have been the longest three games of my life.”

Prior to his dismissal at Valley Parade, Benyon had been coming in to form and scored against both Accrington Stanley and Hereford United.

However, that progress was disrupted by his red card against the Bantams following a clash with defender Rob Kozluk which still infuriates Benyon.

“It just was never a red card and that made it all even more frustrating for me,” said Benyon.

“I had a clash with the player who was marking me and he forced me to the floor so when he walked past me next I just tripped him up.

“It was all a bit silly but it’s the type of thing that happens all the time on a football pitch.

“It was not at all violent or malicious but unfortunately the linesman wanted to make a name for himself and I ended up getting sent off which I couldn’t believe.”
